Convert to PDF/A (Archival)

PDF/A is a standard format for long-term document preservation (ISO 19005). It ensures the document will look the same even in 20-50 years, even when computers and software are completely different. Fonts are embedded in the file, colors are standardized, and there is no dependency on external components that might disappear. Courts, government archives, and institutional bodies require this format.

PDF/A-2b is recommended for most cases - supports all modern PDF features (layers, transparency, JPEG2000 compression). PDF/A-1b is the oldest and most compatible (if the other side asks for "PDF/A" without specifying - this is the safe choice). PDF/A-2u adds advanced search capability. PDF/A-3b allows attaching additional files inside PDF/A (important for e-invoices needing to attach XML).

Upload the PDF, the tool scans it and shows an analysis of what needs to be adjusted (fonts not embedded, encryption that needs to be removed, JavaScript that is not allowed). Choose a PDF/A level (default PDF/A-2b), click "Convert". The tool uses Ghostscript for conversion and veraPDF for validation. At the end you get both the converted file and a validation report showing compliance.

No. It is a format intended for preservation, not locking. You can open and edit the file in Adobe Acrobat or other PDF tool, but once you edit it - it has lost PDF/A compliance. If you want both to edit and to maintain compliance, you need to convert again after each edit.

Full font embedding (required in PDF/A so it looks the same even without the original font on the computer), ICC color profile, and extended metadata structure - all add about 30-50% to file size. This is normal and required to ensure the file will look the same even years later. If size bothers you, you can run the compression tool after conversion (but this may harm compliance).

Yes, fully. Hebrew fonts are automatically embedded in the final PDF/A file, and conversion preserves right-to-left text direction. Mixed documents (Hebrew and English together) also convert correctly.
