How Does PDF Comparison Work?

The tool automatically detects the PDF type and chooses the best comparison method. For text-based PDFs, it extracts text from each page and runs a line-by-line diff algorithm that identifies exactly what was added, removed, or changed. Results are displayed side by side - removed text is shown with a strikethrough and added text is highlighted.

For scanned PDFs without selectable text, the tool automatically switches to visual comparison. Each page is rendered as an image and differences are detected at the pixel level. Changed areas are highlighted in red directly on the page image, with a zoom option to focus on the change. This method is faster and more accurate than OCR since it doesn't depend on text recognition.

When Should You Compare PDF Files?

Got a revised contract and want to know what changed? Your lawyer sent a new version and you need to know if clauses were added? The tool shows differences between two PDF files within seconds - deleted text is marked with strikethrough, new text is highlighted.

Also useful for accountants comparing annual reports, students comparing paper drafts, and anyone who receives a "revised version" and wants to know exactly what changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I compare two PDF files?

Upload both files and click "Compare files". The tool automatically detects the PDF type and displays differences page by page. For text PDFs you'll see line-level changes, and for scanned PDFs you'll see visual highlights on changed areas.

How does the tool handle scanned files?

The tool automatically detects scanned PDFs and switches to visual comparison. Each page is rendered as an image and differences are detected at the pixel level. Changed areas are highlighted in red. This is more accurate than OCR since text recognition errors don't affect results.

What happens when the two files have different page counts?

The tool handles this automatically. Pages that exist in only one file are compared against a blank page, and a notice about the page count difference is shown at the top of the results.

What is the maximum file size I can upload?

You can upload files up to 100MB each. For scanned files with many pages, processing may take a few extra seconds.

Are my files stored on the server?

No. Both files are processed and deleted immediately after comparison. No data is stored.
